Devil and Angel Carved Wood Panel
A French antique hand carved wood wall panel dating to the 19th century. The wood carving has been enhanced by red and gold painting.
The religious sculpture features Our Lord Jesus Christ (I guess) overlooking to an angel and the Devil. Architectural decor on the background. This Folk Art carving might depict "The fight of the Angel and the Devil", to illustrate the Office of the Dead or "Job tested by the devil". It has been inspired by illuminations of the Book of Hours of a French Louis king. On the back of the panel, there is the hand written inscription "Livre d'Heures de St Louis XIII" 'Book of Hours of St Louis XIII".
