Notre Dame des Enfants Medal
Rare antique French medal depicting Virgin Mary blessing people below the inscription: Notre Dame des Enfants Chateauneuf Sous Cher "Our lady of Children".
"Notre Dame des Enfants, Protégez Nous, Protégez Nos Parents, Protégez l'Eglise" meaning "Our Lady of the Children, Protect Us, Protect Our Parents, Protect the Church"
The basilica of Notre Dame des Enfants was created in 1866.
It has an interested story:
"Appointed parish priest of Châteauneuf-sur-Cher in 1861, Father Ducros discovered a church in ruins. In order to rebuild it, he decided to raise funds by asking each child for "two cents" in exchange for which he promised to pray to the Virgin Mary for them. In return, he received many "two cents", but also many letters:
"You announce to us, Monsieur le Curé, that the new sanctuary you are building will be dedicated to Our Lady of the Children. What a beautiful name! The Blessed Virgin, invoked under this title, will be pleased to fill childhood with the most abundant graces."
The idea of the name was born from this, and in 1866, the Confraternity of Our Lady of the Children was created. It was erected as an archconfraternity by an apostolic brief from Pope Pius IX on January 21, 1870."
