Pressed Horn Napoleon Snuff box
Beautiful Napoleonic period French pressed cow horn snuff or tobacco box. The snuff box shows Napoleon meditating before the tomb of Frederick II of Prussia in the crypt of the Garnisonkirche in Potsdam, on 26 October, 1806. Napoleon seems to have been obsessed by the memory of Frederick the Great's victories. And this explains the inscription written on the snuff box:
"Napoleon au tombeau du grand Frédéric" meaning in English "Napoleon before Frederick the Great's tomb"
"s'il n'était pas là, je ne serais pas ici" meaning "if he was not there, I wouldn't be here"
