Lemon Majolica Trompe L'Oeil
A magnificent French antique majolica wall plaque made by Perret Gentil in Menton. The colorful applique features a trompe l'oeil decor of lemons with pendant flowering and fruiting citrus branches. The glaze is amazing. This wall piece would be gorgeous in a kitchen to add a French country armosphere.
The reverse has been stamped P.G for Perret-Gentil, circa 1900. His production is referenced in the book "Barbotines de la cote d'azur" by Maryse Bottero.
Overall good antique condition with signs of ages: a splinter on one flower petal and small chips on leaves. There is a chip on a lemon, this is an original flaw.
Please, take a close look at the pictures.
Height: 12 3/4" (32.5cm)
Width: 8 1/4" (21cm)
Thickness: 3 1/8" (8cm)
Weight: 1kg
