Mater Admirabilis Medal Penin

Regular price €79

Beautiful antique French religious medal engraved by Penin Poncet in Lyon in the early 20th century. The silverplated brass pendant depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On the reverse, it features the Virgin Mary after the fresco "Mater Admirabilis" (Mother Most Admirable) at the Trinità dei Monti, a church in Rome painted by a young French girl, Pauline Perdrau. This work of art has been associated with several miracles.

"History of the fresco: Pope Leo XII offered in 1828 the Trinità dei Monti to the religious of the Sacred Heart. Perdrau born in 1817, who would later become a Religious of the Sacred Heart, painted the fresco in 1844. It was called Mater Admirabilis by Pope Pius IX, when he discovered it on October 20, 1846. October 20 is the feast of Mater Admirabilis in the Roman Catholic Church, as observed by the Society of the Sacred Heart."

It comes with a brand new silver chain (16 or 18 inches, rolo or snake chain). This necklace would be a perfect gift.

Good antique condition with some normal signs of ages.
