St Teresa by Becker Necklace
A beautiful French religious medal made made of gold-plated metal. The golden pendant finely features a portrait of Saint Teresa Of Lisieux, Child of Jesus, Jesus Infant. The amulet has been signed by the French engraver Edmond Becker (1871-1971). The reverse depicts a rain of rose petals with Saint Teresa's words "je veux passer mon ciel à faire pleuvoir des roses sur la terre" meaning in English: "
I want to spend my heaven raining roses on the earth".
The medal floats from a new 18k gold-plated snake chain measuring 20 inches (50cm) long. (see photos).
CONDITION: Overall good vintage condition with some normal signs of ages.

"Edmond Becker, born in Paris (1871-1971), participated in the Salon des Artistes Français in the "sculpture" section at the age of twenty, but it was the 1900 exhibition that brought him consecration at the Boucheron stand (Gold Medal).
While the "modern style" unfolds its sinuous lines, he treats with humor and gaiety familiar themes such as children's faces, flowers, plants, gives everyday objects their nobility, watches the appearance of jewelry and passes with ease from academician swords to monumental sculpture.
In 1927 he executed the High Altar of the French Church in New York and sculpted profiles to be minted in coins and medals. The postage stamp also holds his attention. This great artist's record of achievement is long and in 1937 he received the highest award, the "Medal of Honor".
For many years, Edmond Becker devoted himself exclusively to the medal of which he became the great specialist on the Paris market, and adapted his work to the evolution of contemporary art."
