Faverney Miracle medal

Regular price €35

A French vintage medal from the 20th century. The lovely silverplated pendant features Blessed Mary as Our Blessed Lady The White (Notre Dame la Blanche). The reverse depicts the reliquary of the abbey of Faverney. The Faverney miracle is an eucharistic miracle, which is said to have occurred on May 26 and 27, 1608, the day after Pentecost and the day after that, in the abbey church of Faverney Abbey, located in the former county of Burgundy, today in the department of Haute-Saône. A monstrance, containing two hosts consecrated on the eve of Pentecost, would have remained suspended in the air for 33 hours, before coming back down to earth, in front of a thousand witnesses, attending the service. Although published by the archbishop of Besançon, Ferdinand de Rye, on July 10, 1608, the miracle was not officially recognized by the Holy See until May 16, 1864, by decision of Pope Pius IX. The only host that survived the Revolution is now exposed in its reliquary-ostension every Monday of Pentecost in the abbey church.

Please take a close look at the photos, they are an integral part of the description. It is in nice antique condition with some normal signs of ages like wears of silver-plate.
