A beautiful French antique religious statue made of hand carved wood covered by a painted gesso. The sculpture finely features Our lady Virgin Mary tenderly carrying the child Jesus Christ in her arms. This "Madonna and child" statue used to be fixed on a pedestal. It dates to the 18th century. The polychromatic work of art measures 20 1/8 inches high (51cm).
Condition: several splinters on the gesso. The head of Mary has been broken and repaired. Please take a close look at the photos, they are an integral part of the description.
