Blessed Wax Agnus Dei 19th.C
Blessed Wax Agnus Dei 19th.C
Antique Agnus Dei dating to the late 19th century. The wax medallion features the paschal lamb. It is surrounded by paper quillings (paperolles), protected by a convex glass pane and framed with a black wooden oval frame.
"An Agnus Dei is a devotional object in the form of a white wax medallion. It is usually blessed by the pope during Holy Week. Of very old tradition, the "Agnus Dei" are not manufactured since the middle of the years 1960. " "The Agnus Dei are composed of white wax from the remains of the Paschal candle (those of the major basilicas) mixed with the Holy Chrism. The wax of the candles offered to the pope for Candlemas was also added."
This Agnus Dei reliquary was blessed by Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903). I can read the date 1883 or 1888.
CONDITION: Overall good antique condition with some signs of ages like a knock on the wooden frame. Please take a close look at the photos.
