A beautiful wall hand carved wood panel dating to the late 19th century. The sculpture depicts in high relief the portrait of the Laughing neapolitan after the work of art of Jean-Baptiste Carpeau (1821-1875). JB Carpeau is a famous French sculptor of the 19th century. He worked during the Second Empire under Napoleon III.
This carving is unsigned and may have been made after JB Carpeau. It is finely detailed. This wall wooden medallion would be perfect to add a French atmosphere of the 19th century in your home.

Overall good antique condition with some normal signs of ages.
